India is home to one of the highest rates of illiteracy in the world. There are 250 million children around the world who cannot read or write. India is home to 116 million of these children.
With number so high, India was a priority for Effect.org to open schools. We entered the country in 2010, opening our first school in rural Bihar. Working with parents, we learned about the schooling they envisioned for their children. What was important? Quality education with talented, passionate teachers. Though the school is no longer in operation due to health issues with management, our learnings from this school were valuable.
While our headquarters are located in the Bay Area of United States, we also have an office in New Delhi. This office is the home of all academic operations. Our school team began creating lessons plans, curricula and sourcing locations for our first schools. Years later, we are growing quickly and continue to work closely with parents, determining improvements and changes to our schools.
