April is National Poetry Month. We wanted to dedicate this week’s blog post to a poet with work that reflects our passion for education and women empowerment.
Kamla Bhasin is an Indian feminist, humanitarian, and poet from Rajasthan, India. For over twenty years, Bhasin has worked with the Freedom from Hunger Campaign of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and has dedicated her life to helping the poor in rural areas in India. She also has her own women’s empowerment organization called,Sangat. Bhasin wrote a poem called, “Because I am a Girl, I Must Study,” which refers the importance of education in women’s empowerment. With this said, we thought Bhasin was the best candidate to dedicate this week’s blog to.
